Samurai Warriors Chronicles stat glitch?

So I was playing samurai warriors chronicles and then I got bored and checked my stats for my character and they are incredibly high but when I go in the shop and change my items in the shop my stats are completely different. Is this some kind of glitch or something or is it normal.
