Am I supposed to be able to defeat the "v2"s in valkyria chronicles 2 when i first meet them?

I just did the mission where you have to get the apc to certain place to win and there were these big armored buys with blue lasers and stuff and when I try to kill em they always **** me up... When I get to this part am i supposed to be able to kill them?
