Are United States PS3s region locked?

I was looking at the release date for White Knight Chronicles 2, and apparently the US release date has been pushed back to September this year. Oddly, the United Kingdoms version has already been released, so I was wondering if I could just buy that off of ebay or something and start playing before summer ends.
