Most loved books.......?

I was wanting to read something very loved, like Lord of the rings and such, (not harry potter, I already love that one X), please not twilight. Like say, chronicles of Narnia or Eragon, just well known, and popular, preferably intelligent, you know what I mean by that :D No vampires please.
